Talent Acquisition

Whether you’re just starting in HR or you’ve been in the field for a number of years, having a good resource library to refer to as you progress your career is so important. We’ve put together a list of HR books that we think should be included in every HR professionals library.

How to Measure Human Resource Management” by Jac Fitz-enz.

Want to dig deep into the reporting metrics and truly get to the bottom of measuring the success of your hiring practices? Then this one's for you. While not a book to read cover to cover, it's definitely a reference guide and for re-reading sections as you need them. A go-to knowledge base that will be useful for HR professionals in selling big ideas to senior leadership and later being able to report on the effectiveness of programs.

The Diversity Bonus : How Great Teams Pay Off in the Knowledge Economy” by Scott Page

If you want your business or team to perform better by harnessing the power of diverse teams, read this book. With compelling evidence and use case examples, Scott Page argues the business case for drawing out diverse perspectives, and maps out exactly how to do it. A clear road map for every HR professional and leader looking to build out a comprehensive D&I strategy.

Managing the Mobile Workforce: Leading, Building, and Sustaining Virtual Teams” by David Clemons and Michael Kroth.

While so relatable in 2021 this is actually a book that came out well before its time. As organisations embrace remote work to survive this year, never has the ability to understand the virtual workforce and how to create policies/procedures/systems that will support virtual work been more important. A must read for HR professionals looking to build out remote hiring and retention strategies.

Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done” by Larry Bossidy and Ram Charan

A great resource for helping individuals and organisations turn big ideas into action plans. As HR professionals, we are often tasked with helping managers, departments, and the whole company turn their goals and strategies into actionable plans. This book can be helpful to getting individuals and organisations “unstuck” and provides the map to move forward in their plans.

Smart Staffing: How To Hire, Reward And Keep The Top Employees For Your Growing Company by Wayne Outlaw.

This book is one of the most comprehensive books on screening, selecting, hiring, training, and retaining the best professionals. This book is aimed at upskilling HR professionals on some of the best strategies out there for talent retention that can be employed in both large-scale organisations and smaller businesses alike.

There are so many other great books out there but we think you will gain a lot from this list. If you have some books that you recommend, put them in the comments. We would like to turn this article into a resource for others.
